The South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (saasa) Won The Lilizela Award!

11th October 2014

This alone was an accolade that made us walk a bit taller, feel a bit lighter and smile a bit broader!  We received an invitation from Lilizela to attend the Awards Gala on the 9th of October and our CEO, Tony Blignaut, travelled to Gauteng to attend the event.  He proudly received our certificate for being the Provincial Winner in our category.  Then to the surprise of our CEO they announced Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary as not only the Provincial winner but also the NATIONAL Winner for the Best Visitors Experience at a Wildlife Encounter.

Why Us

Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and the Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary are all part of the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance (SAASA).  Here at SAASA we believe there is Zero Conservation in the pet-pay-and-pay industry as for an animal being poked, prodded, posed, or walked on a leash is Abuse.  Animal Attractions that partake in this type of abuse should be re-named Abusement Parks!

Our Marketing Manager, Lara Mostert often admits freely that we are aware that we are stepping on some toes by being so outspoken for the rights of animals.  But stepping on toes and being ignored by most people in the animal tourism will not stop us from doing what is right for the animals.  We lead by example and educate the public, tourism sector, schools, etc on best animal welfare practices.

SAASA does not profit from our animal’s by-products, meaning that we do not sell their offspring, their skin, bone or any other part of the animal.  At the South African Animal Sanctuary Alliance we care, about the animal, its well-being, it happiness, its past and more importantly its future!
